Idiots' Open Golf Tournament February 7, 2009
Golfers who long to hit the green, no matter what the weather brings, will welcome the chance to tee off at the sixth annual Idiots' Open benefiting Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. Come rain, sleet or snow tournament participants persevere -- it's all in the hospice spirit of making the most of every day.

The tournament is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009, at Smiley’s Golf Complex, 10195 Monticello Ter., at K-7 and K-10 highways in Lenexa, Kan.

The tournament goes on no matter what the weather brings—it’s all in the hospice spirit of making the most of every day. In the years past golfers have played in frigid temperatures, snow on the ground and snow showers.

The funds raised from this event will help seriously ill patients and their families make the most of their days. Care includes managing patients’ pain and symptoms, as well as providing emotional and spiritual support for patients and their families. Funds raised cover costs incurred by patients who are unable to pay and services not customarily reimbursable by insurance.

The tournament is a scramble format. Registration fees are $80 a player, $300 for a team of four, $400 for hole sponsorship, and $600 for hole sponsorship plus a team.

Registration fees include nine holes of golf with the option to finish the other nine holes after the tournament, brightly colored golf balls, a hot lunch and coffee. The event also includes silent and live auctions.

To register or for more information about the tournament and additional sponsorship opportunities, contact Vicki Rancilio at Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, 816-363-2600. Online registration is now available in the "calendar of events" section of this website.

Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care is a nonprofit organization that has been enhancing life for the seriously ill since 1980.
