Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care is committed to serving
minorities through education and the building
of relationships. Long-held cultural beliefs and a historical mistrust of
the health care system are the major reasons hospice and palliative
care are used far less by minorities than by whites,
according to a study reported by The Washington Post. This data speaks to the need for greater outreach and accountability to minority patients who can benefit from hospice.
Recognizing the needs of an underserved population, Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care strives to increase understanding of and access to hospice care among minorities living in the Greater Kansas City community. Our focus is to dispel myths about hospice and palliative care and to help minority families obtain services that will alleviate suffering and provide caregivers at home with support.
Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care is respectful of the minority communities' perception of death and dying. It is our goal to offer compassionate care to patients with life-limiting illnesses, while providing the necessary support to make a peaceful transition from this life.
