Our specially trained, board-certified physicians and advanced practice nurse, provide direction to all of our clinical programs and work with our hospice and palliative care patients. Our physicians also are available to serve anyone in the community who is facing a serious or life-limiting illness.
Their practice is known as Kansas City Palliative Medicine. They team with the patient’s current physician to complement the care patients are already receiving, answer questions, manage pain and other symptoms, and help patients live well through serious illness.
Our physicians and advanced practice nurse are available to visit patients where they live—whether at home, a nursing home or assisted living facility—for consultation and follow-up visits. Patients may visit our Kansas City Palliative Medicine Clinic (located within Kansas City Hospice House) at 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Mo. We also meet with patients at Providence (Kansas City, Kan.) and Saint John (Leavenworth, Kan.) medical centers and other hospitals as needed.
Care includes:
- Helping patients and their physicians manage pain and other symptoms, such as fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea, constipation, loss of appetite or difficulty sleeping.
- Reviewing the patient’s medical information and working with patients and their families to assess treatment options so that they can make decisions that fit with their priorities and goals.
- Supporting patients and families through all of the challenges that are part of coping with serious illness.
- Assisting in planning for future care, such as helping determine the most appropriate care setting.
If patients need additional services beyond the resources of Kansas City Palliative Medicine, we can connect you with community programs that offer home health nurses, home health aides, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, and other supportive professionals. Additional care would complement the services provided by Kansas City Palliative Medicine and might include ongoing assistance with physical needs and personal care, and emotional and spiritual support for the patient and family.

In addition to serving patients, they provide education at local medical schools and to health care professionals, are a resource for Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care’s clinical staff and frequently give presentations at local, regional and national hospice and palliative care meetings.
Services are billed to your medical insurance. Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance are accepted. Individuals who are uninsured may receive care through our fee waiver program.
